I've heard about lawyers that find wives of wealthy men and encourage them to divorce. This is so the wife can have *more* money around retirement time. i.e. 1/2 pension and 1/2 belongings and, the kicker, spousal support. This is obviously more than she would have if she had to *share* the money. The lawyers benefit with the proceedings. I have heard of one case of lawyers doing this practice, has anyone else?

Wow! Next you'll be asking if lawyers chase ambulances. Let's face it, if a marriage is stable, no lawyer or anybody else is going to shake it. If the marriage is on the rocks, then anybody, even a lawyer, can push it over the hill. Lawyers got a bad rap. Do you realize that virtually every safety feature on any automobile sold in America came about because one of those bottom-feeding lawyers brought a lawsuit against an auto maker who refused to supply the latest safety equipment? Lawyers protect your constitutional rights. Do the police? The Courts can't rule until lawyers bring a case. So don't badmouth lawyers...they're as necessary as police, firemen, judges and senators. All of whom have some problems.

Sorry I don't buy the "spousal support" because most states in the U.S. don't allow it any longer. Yes the wife is entitled to 1/2 the pension, 1/2 the belongings because the are the "marital assets". What you Heard, as they say in a court of law is simply hearsay and not admissable as evidence...get your stories straight next time.

I know it is great fun to bash the lawyers - but remember - everytime someone has a really complicated/difficult question on this board - every answer is - go see a lawyer. So yes, great to say they are the cause of all that is evil in the country but remember - without them who would you turn to when your questions got really complicated?

Of course it's done. But that doesn't mean all divorce lawyers do it. If you're wealthy enough for it to be a problem, you should move (with your wife) to a country where divorce is illegal.
