Well, first of all, the last episode was New Year's Eve, December 31, 1979. If the show had continued, it wouldn't be That '70s Show anymore. Also, Topher Grace who plays Eric wasn't getting along with many of the other cast members. He was jealous that Ashton's career was skyrocketing when he was supposed to be the main character. All of the guys - Ashton, Danny and Wilmer - were good friends and spent time together off set, but Topher distanced himself from everyone, making the situation awkward. Eventually, he just didn't feel comfortable around most of the cast, so they decided it was a good time to end the show.
I learned of all that on the E! True Hollywood Story of That '70s Show.

Do you know that a cup of ice tea would not warm up until all the ice in the cup is gone? Earth is the same way; earth will be on fire and kill ALL living thing when all the ice on earth is gone. Even before that happen, it will be have so much water go up and down to make big storms and kill lots people. We are talking about the future; it will be too late, when you can see the global warming at your front yard. Please be open minded; I know lots people can’t see it, and millions people can not make that much different one way or the other. But, it will be huge different when most the population are doing it right now, how long do you think the earth can last? Keep in mind that Earth is not that big; you can go around the earth in less than 2 days.

Besides that the executives probably figured they had done all they could with the show--and wanted it to go out still loved--they were already minus two major characters. Additionally, the "kids" were getting kind of old to be just hanging out all the time.
I love the show myself, and still watch reruns. I also miss Dharma and Greg, but watch those reruns too.

The cast was starting to split and everyone wanted to do new things. Ashton Kutcher and the guy that played Eric especially!
They were all beginning to star in individual movies and things other than the show.

They lost ratings after Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher left the show so they decided to wrap it up. Too bad though, I loved Red Foreman!
