i want to go to a college where i can take acting classes because i would like to make it big... but i would also like to go and get a degree so i can become an rn if acting doesn't work out. Could I do that? Or do I have to pick one or the other? Im 13 yrs old so i know that college is a long ways down the road but i was just wondering.

You could minor in performing arts and take a nursing program at many schools. The best of which I know of (in both programs) is the school I currently go to, University of San Francisco. I'm a poli sci major but the school is one of the best nursing ones in tnor cal, and is quite active in theatre.

You'll probably change your mind a lot though. I changed my major once already and when I was thirteen I wanted to be a doctor hahah.

For the most part, you'll have to pick one or the other, as becoming an R.N. is an intensive college program. It is very unlikely that your college schedule will be able to fit in any acting classes. (My daughter is a dance major who is REQUIRED to take an acting class and, after three years, is having a tough time fitting in one measley acting class.) Of course, you could go to college longer than 4 years, but I can guarantee you that it won't be worth the added tuition.

Your best bet is to start taking acting classes NOW and get involved in any school or community teen theater productions as you can. Then, you could always continue taking acting classes outside of school and doing community theater for the rest of your life, even while being a nurse. And, who knows, if you could get an agent after college, you might even be able to get some paid gigs. But your surest money is in nursing. Nursing in is huge demand, while actors are a dime a dozen.

You can pursue both. You can double major in theatre and nursing. Or, just major in nursing and join the theatre club at school and audition for plays. You can have both in your life. And, remember getting a degree in nursing won't make you an RN you have to pass your board exam (called the NCLEX) to practice.

You can do anything you like. You don't have to pick one or the other. At least you have a preliminary game plan, even though you are probably too young to worry right now. But good luck!
