Every pair of sweats I've ever had, have gotten a little rough on the inside. I think it's the nature of the fabric. To eliminate lint balls, or pilling, from the outside, try washing and drying them inside out. While this won't help the *softness factor* for inside, it should help to make them look a little neater on the outside.

friction causes the lint balls. turn the garments inside out to wash them.. often it isn't something that you are doing at all. not all fabrics are the same and these days I think some of the sweats are of inferior quality.

Someone actually invented a gadget that takes care of those fuzz balls. It is like a shaver for sweaters and other shirts prone to fuzzing up. You can actually use a double or triple bladed razor to carefully shave the balls off. Or you can try to find the gadget online. Good luck...I hate those fuzz balls too!

You probably have to purchase yourself one of those little sweater shavers. This appliance is made for shaving off fabric balls on knit wear.
In future turn your pants inside out before you place them into the washer.
Happy shaving.

I wash all my clothes on the gentle cycle, so that they don't rub together as hard, and a low setting in the dryer. I've also herd that using vinegar in you rinse cycle helps bring back softness to your clothes, but haven't tried it yet.
