I happen to be both a cook and musician. When I first started cooking I would nick my fingers pretty regularly, and at the time had a 4 hour a day guitar habit. You can wrap your finger, but basically anything you do is gonna affect your playing. I used to try to baby said finger for about a day or so, then suck it up. Yeah it stings but if you love what you're doing enough it shouldn't matter that much. Also if you baby your finger, it gives you a new opportunity to relearn some of your playing from a different angle. That can't be bad can it?

I have a friend who plays with silver tape on his fingers all of the time. You might try that and see if you like it.

Might be hard, but put a metal thimble on your finger, It will sound different but the sound is actually pretty cool.

Try putting some super glue or clear nail polish over it. Do not hold me responsible for death or disfigurement though.
