There is no objective definition of "Third World" - at one point it refered to countries that did not take sides in the cold war, although today it is synonomous with poor developed countries.

There are many poorly developed countries in America, but the USA is certainly not one of them, although it has a somewhat low standard of living compared to other developed countries.

I think it would take something very catastrophic to turn the US into a 'third world' country, I don't see it happening gradually.

We are not sliding backwards at all. Our wonderful elected leaders are selling us out in the name of corporate profits and their lobbyists. This has been going on for a long time, but has become much more noticeable in recent years.
Its all being done through the trade agreements signed by the USA in recent years and over the last couple decades.
Does NAFTA and CAFTA and FTAA agreements for example ring any bells in your mind? Also the Council on Foreign Relations. Start reading and researching, you will see.
It was said back in the early 1990's with the NAFTA agreement alone that there would be this GIANT sucking sound of American jobs once this trade agreement began being implimented.
Boy were these folks right! Get ready, for 3rd world is looking pretty good compared to what these folks have in store and planned for us all. Even a peasant will look good in a few more years. All this is happening while America chooses to sleep through all the political propaganda that goes on by the polticians.
I'm glad you are noticing it where ever you live. IT IS REAL and we are being sucked under by the U.N. and others. A (1) world government isn't too far away now. By the way, this immigration thing that is SO BIG right now is also part of this equation. Nothing is going to happen to them. It falls under these trade agreements I've already spoken of. Its only going to get worse for America. We are already in the process of becoming ONE big force in the world, the combining of Canada, USA, and Mexico. They also are going to do away with the US Dollar, the Mexican Peso, and the Canadian Dollar and have a NEW, North American currency called the Amero.
So, get ready, because its coming. It'll be here some day just like the morning of 9/11, sudden. I don't care if anyone believes what I say or not. That's just what the politicians WANT, IS YOUR BLIND SIDE. The coffee is on, WAKE UP and SMELL IT!
The websites below is a long ones, but an eye openers. Type the entire thing into your browser. I had to make 2 lines out of each website to make it viewable to all.

studies suggest that the free trade agreement will furthur seperate the haves from the have nots. Low educational standards and the lack of manufactoring jobs will increase unemployment. As part of the new world order America will have people making only the barest amount of money to survive. I don't know if it will be a third world country I don't know what that means because in Caracas Venuzuela people live in shacks on hill sides and there is much violence but there are area's of very wealthy people and some people would consider that a third world country based on the political structure. So with the change of who is in this country and the arrival of many south of the border people who don't speak the language and are not american citizens I do believe before long it won't be third world say in the African sense but it will be that Venuzuela kind. If you really look around you, you can see the signs already. Also America was never a third world country because people who had money came to this country and began to form it based on English standards and England was never a third world country. Check out the new world order in wikipedia I believe you will see what I mean about America is close to being a third world country as well some additional shocking information about your government.

The lifestyle of present-day americans depends to a large degree on continuous borrowing of money from other countries. This is what the US trade deficit and the US government budget deficit is all about.

Some day, other countries will run into economic problems of their own. And then instead of lending more money to US, they'll want their loans to US repaid.

The US standard of living will probably fall as a result. It won't be the same as a third world country. But for many people America will be sliding backwards.

No But it is alarming how many things we do have in common with 3rd. world countries.....high crime rates, high infant mortality rates, the death penalty, etc. What I worry about is that the middle class might be slipping and I then envision a country of very rich and very poor. Lets hope not. I don't even think that the majority of Americans take advantage of their right to vote! We have to have very ethical people in our government.

No. Third world means underdevloped which means that majority of the country is without "basic" needs such as electricty, running water, shelter, food, etc.....

In order for the United States to become underdevloped we would have to lose much of our existing materials.

As it stands right now, The United States has *amoung* the highest Standard of Living and Quality of life.

So I have no idea where you could have possibly thought that.

I believe that someday this great nation will fall. That just breaks my heart to think that. It scares me as I have so many kids and 3 that are very young. All I can do is continue praying.
