There is a civil war, between Arabic-speaking Sudanese and non Arabic speaking Sudanese, over who will control the farmland of the Darfur province.

The Sudanese government and Army are allied with the Janjaweed, an Arabis speaking Sudanese militia which has been responsible for many atrocities against Darfurians

America is interested because Sudan has oil (not in Darfur, but in the Arabic speaking Nile Valley region of the country).

Chevron, an American company, used to control Sudan's oil.

Now, the Sudanese government wants to market their oil to a consortium of Chinese, Indian, Russian and French oil companies.

That's why America cares - not because 400,000 Black Africans have died in the Darfur war.

3 million Congolese have died in that country's civil war, but the Congo doesn't have any oil, so America doesn't care.

But Sudan does - and the Sudanese took it away from an American company and want to sell it directly to other countries.

That's why we're hearing about the Darfur genocide.

They have been fighting since Clinton left office. And were fighting before that, but it got real bad at the end of Clintons term. UN asked for help, but US and EU did not and still does not think it is a threat. Kinsha and Mumbasa, Tutus,Tutsi and some others been killing families for like 10 years now. Its African on African, no oil or whites involved, so it isn't newsworthy.
