while it is cold out it should be fine.. coolant is to cool your engine down.. so unless your driving a far, far distance and speeding.. putting a lot of stress on your engine.. the weather should keep your engine from overheating... just pick some up within the next 2 days and refill it... if the light is yellow that means its low, not completely empty.. if it is red that means its empty. Theres a meter on the left side of your speedometer that tells you how hot your engine is... top is HOT bottom is COLD... once your car is warmed up (after you have driven it for a few minutes) it should be right at the 50% mark... you shouldnt go 3/4's the way up or more because then youll have a problem.
but yea.. you can drive without having coolant in your car.. just get some once you get the chance and keep an eye on your engine heat meter.

When your light goes on, you go to the side of the road and call a tow truck! This is what driving when the coolant light is on is like:
Imagine wearing 2 potholders on your hands, and sticking them in an 600 degree oven, now, remove the potholders, and stick your hands back in the oven... How long do you think you could keep your hands in there before you get burnt?
If you can afford a $2000 engine, then drive all you want on it.... you might as well make it interesting and empty the oil out as well.

I it may just be that you are low in your overflow. You could stop at a service area and have someone check your level.
Depending on how old your car is there is two type of coolant out on the market. Make sure not to mix the two types.(Green or Red)

Better to add water than to drive it around without coolant. As soon as possible, add coolant.

better get some water,or anti-freeze in it.its very important to have it filled, cause if it overheats, then you might blow a gasket or something.
