If it is very cold where you are you may need to let it run 15 to 20 minutes What ever it takes to get the engine up to operating temperature. But once it reaches operating temperature You are just waisting gas. And tuning on the air in the Summer is OK for comfort but it is hard on your engine When it is not up to operating temperature. It is much better to just lower your windows til it is warmed up which will only take about 5 minutes in the summer. Then when you leave wait a couple of minutes before you roll up the windows, to let the breeze blow out the hottest of the air. then turn on the AC. and roll up the windows. You will save wear and tear on both car and AC.

Excessive idling can damage your engine. Instead of letting your truck idle for 20 minutes, drive your truck slowly and gradually increase your speed. This will warm your engine up much faster than letting it sit with the engine on for 20 minutes.
Try parking in a shaded area during the summer. Or, get a sun shade for your truck, and crack the windows. This will lower the temperature in your truck when you get in on a hot day.

Cold or hot outside, 5-10 minutes should be sufficient. Prolonged idling plugs up a lot of things, especially on a diesel as it isn't running hot enough, carbon plugs up injectors.
Today's vehicles don't need prolonged warm ups in winter. Just long enough to clear the windshield and give you some warmth.
Summer, just long enough to cool that HOT seat.
Get moving, its better in the long run for engine component life.

It's bad for your truck. You only need to let it warm up fot 5 minutes at the most. Idling for long periods is considered hard driving. Also, why do you crank up the a/c in the winter? Hot where you're at?

Yes it's okay. Max A\C setting , is just recirculating the passenger compartment air over and over to cool the air again and again. This is like central Air & Heat in your house. The normal, A\C setting on your dash controls, just set the system to draw in outside air, and cool it once. neither max or norm. changes anything else that impacts your vehicle adversly
