We are going to Malaysia for 7 days in the last week of Februrary. We'll of course stay a couple of days in Kuala Lampur but then we'd like to kick back on a non-commercialized, quiet beach island which is easy enough to get to but is not crowded with backpackers.

Our activities on the island will mostly be laying around on the beach (an empty beach is better than a crowded one). We're not crazy about water sports but we like markets, temples, mosques, scenic spots etc. And we love food :)

Please recommend an island, and if you know of nice accomodation, please provide the details.

Thanks!

first, Welcome to Malaysia !

non-commercialized, quite beach, easy to get to yet not crowded ? is there such island in the world ? anyway all [almost] those islands in Malaysia are as what you dreamed of only during week days ! so avoid public n school holiday n week end !

tempted to tell you Perhentian, Redang n Tioman Island which are located at the east coast of Malaysia but not sure whether the monsoon season would be draged til then[ last week of Feb ], these 3 are some of the best, heaven for diving/snorkeling ! do check-out with your travel agent while you are in Kuala Lumpur, otherwise try Langkawi, Penang or Pangkor Island where accessibilty are all year round !

There are many resorts/hotels/chalets available n you don't have to books in advance if going there during week days ! [ please remember not on any holiday ]

Not to be miss :
Langkawi - cable car ride, island hopping n round the island on rented car, foods a little expensive, market [duty free ] n lots of mosques but temples not sure !

Pangkor - island tour by rented bike, visit of dried fishs factory n cheap foods ! yes, temples, mosques n market !

Penang - lots of foods, temples, mosques ! Penang Hill, Batu Feringgi etc etc !

The Perhentian Islands off the East coast are probably the most unspoiled but not easy to get to if time is short. You don't want hassle traveling.

In which case you should look at Langkawi, which has been developed for the mid price range, rather than backpackers, or Pangkor. Both of them have regular, reliable boat services.

You might have better luck with a travel agent. They can give you some info.
