Um, I don't seem to understand your question. Are you asking why your hard drive can hold more than RAM?

To say the least, RAM is just a way to make your computer faster. RAM memory can be be read and written at super high speeds, but cannot hold the memory without power. Hard disk drives do the exact opposite. They are much slower than RAM but does not require power to keep the memory stored.

For today's sense, the reason of why RAM is so slow is because of two factors.
1) The cost of producing RAM and the technology behind it
2) Capabilities of the current 32-bit OS generation

If this isn't what you were asking, I want the 2 minutes of my life back damn it.

RAM and the C Drive are separate pieces of hardware.. the Ram stands for Random Access Memory, this is used for resouce that stores bits of information there to enable programs to run faster, and load up files quicker and such.. everytime you shut down your computer the ram refreshes and resets its state so your computer will run fresh the next time you turn on your computer. 1 GB of ram is awesome. you do not need to worry about that. Now, the C Drive is what you call the hard drive. That does not change at all when you shut down the computer. The hard drive is what stores every file that you save and the operating system that runs your computer. it also stores programs and everything else. its pretty much where everything you save is stored on the computer.

Um... I think you have a wrong concept about RAM and the C drive. RAM is memory that your computer uses to run programs / process what you tell your computer to do (like opening Internet Explorer) while the C drive is a storage. Think of the C drive as a gigantic DVD disk that can hold a lot more data than a DVD disk.

The storage capacity of your hard drive, also known as Hard Disc (in your case the C drive) is not the same thing as the RAM = random access memory.
Your computer stores the files, programs, software etc. on the hard drive; on modern computers it goes up to 100-200GB.
To run the programs you need the RAM - 1GB is not bad.

Your hard drive and your RAM are different things. Think of RAM as a a chalk board, you can write things on it and then erase it so it is not permanent. The hard drive is like a draw you can put things in it to store them. You can put things on a hard drive and they will stay there until you delete them. With RAM as soon as you turn the computer of everything is erased.

RAM is the pc's system memory, usually can go up to 4GIGS in a home pc. Any data in the RAM is gone the seconds your pc is powered OFF.

C Drive is your HARD DISK , today you can have 1 hard disk that has 750GB by itself, and this stores your data more permanently, so when you power OFF your pc the data will stay there.

RAM is Random Access Memory. It is volatile, meaning it is lost when u turn off ur computer. Your C drive is the hard disc, which does not lose its memory when u turn it off. Your computer uses RAM to temporarily store things it needs to operate, but anything you save is saved to your hard drive. They are two completely different things.
