ideas on how to keep the Middle East from just wiping us off the map? That is if we just"pull out,"like so many are saying. What is the long term solution from the Democrats, pennywise, pound foolish? I certainly don't like so many troops there, but what should we do for the long run?

I'm not sure which is our worse curse, freedom, or the ideology of freedom. We enjoy both and we wish to share it with the oppressed in this world. It's like a railroad. If you want the train to run to your city, you have to lay down the track. It's not the Middle East people that wants to derail us, it's the radical fundalmentalists that have been empowered by the Middle Eastern governments that want to impose their will. To gain and employ the will of the people. many of the oil rich states supported charismatic radical fundamentalists to be the religious leaders. These leaders placate the people and the governments have no separation of church and state. The leaders teach the young their cancerous philosophy that is so much different from the teachings of the Koran. To rectify this, the countries of the free world need to insist that they will no longer buy oil and other products from societies that have the radical support of their religious teachers. With the free world's dependence on Middle Eastern oil, this would take generations. So we must fight them, tooth and nail, or they will indeed wipe us out. Obviously, this is no long term solution from a Democrat.
Now the damage is done. For the long run, we must get rid of the religious factions that indoctrine young Arabs. We must enable an Iraqi government that separates church from state.
And we cannot abandon the chaos that we ourselves have caused until stability is prevalent. The sad truth is, this too, will take generations.
I apologize for my oration but this is my opinion.

We as a country and as individual citizens are going to be living with the after effects of this misguided war for the rest of our lives. You can't put the worms back in the can at this point, all you can hope for is damage control. I don't think anyone can come up with a fix for this.
The long run...This war has ruined our countries reputation internationally, made us a bigger target as we have no moral high ground anymore....it is a total snafu.

"Wiping us off the map"? Nice use of hyperbole. I'm sure you can find a great job in the CIA doctoring intel so it supports whatever military action the US government has up its sleeve next.
But yeah, you're absolutely right. We should just keep repaying innocent Arab and Muslim civilians for 9/11 until the Democrats come up with a "serious idea." I mean who KNOWS what would happen once we remove our boots from their necks?
They might not even THANK us for not killing them. Oh, the humanity!

This is the number one problem, no one else has ANY ideas. When the going gets tough the Democrats and many of the Republicans that are up for re-election in 08 are doing nothing but jumping on the public opinion bandwagon no matter what the cost. This happened in Vietnam and cost us 3 extra years in it and a loss because the protests here in America lent strength to our enemies. Can we all say; thanks to all of you folks that are helping this to happen in Iraq right now?

There seems to be far more criticism than solutions being offered these days.
It's a very difficult problem - we are not fighting a specific enemy, we are fighting a demented ideology.
I truly believe that this is a war we must win - for those who don't believe this, consider the consequences of our inaction and passiveness in the past when dealing with the terrorists. Each time we failed to effectively respond to their terror and murder, it simply lead to more of the same - finally culminating in the events of 9/11.

There are far more criticisms than solutions because there are no solutions. It is a complete fiasco, and everyone is going to end up losing. The plan to stay is a disaster and the plan to go is a disaster. There are no options. Rumsfeld really screwed up, and he took a lot of people down with him.

Unfortunately there aren't any easy solutions to the Iraqi problem, and none of the outcomes that people see are bloodless. Tying the Iraqi problem to the Palestinian problem is a little late, since the Palestinians are now fighting among themselves.
Partioning the country seems to be the least of all evils, but again, it will still lead to a major bloodletting, as well as ethnic cleansing as people are forced out of areas where they are the minority.

The hawks in government said the same thing about us pulling out of Vietnam....but it didn't happen.
Most rational people, having made a terrible mistake, first stop making the mistake....then try to correct the mistake.
Sending in more troops is like saying, "I made a mistake that got thosands killed, so now i'll make a bigger mistake...THAT will fix it."

Why do you think any country in the Middle East could wipe us off the map -- we are the ones with all the nukes, planes, missiles etc. and could wipe the whole place out in 15 minutes if we wanted to. Get a clue.

The withdrawal from Iraq must be exchanged with an aid program for the American established government so that they will be able to unite the Iraqis.
