Peyton was one of the top 100 names for babies born in 2005 and on the top 50 list in 2006 -- it is quite common
Why don't you go for a name that is classic and beautiful but not so used anymore like:
Jacqueline
Elizabeth
Ava
Elise
Angela
Anna
Belinda
Mary Margaret

Ozwald, xander(The guy in buffy, i think you spell i like that) and Roxanne.
I did that too, and so when i turned 16 i put in all my new classes and work places my new nickname. It was awesome because everyone before i was 16 called me something different than everyone that knew me after 16. It's also a weird experiment to see how people act different around you just because of your name. My old name was Carlos and my new name was Oz.
you get a thumbs up!

Peyton is quite common now.
A lot of names that used to be uncommon (Nevaeh, Noah, Jayden, Jaiden, Jensen etc) are now really popular. So be careful! You may think calling your self Asdfghjkl (random example, don't call yourself that) is a cool uncommon nickname, but then you go to school or work one day and there are three Asdfghjkls so you have to use your last initial too.
My favorite name is Hyler, but I also like uncommon, normal names like Lola.

I like the name Peyton. But since you said you are looking for a nick name for yourself, I would go with something that is closely related to your name. Is your name Haydon? If it is I would do something like Harley, Harmony, Hayley Good Luck

here's some off my babynames.com list....
Paisley, Sonoma, Sabel, Paris, Aris, Eden, Rose, Jordana, Ona, Chamberlain, Cadence, Katia...I like unique names! :) :)
good luck! :) check out babynames.com...it's great! you can search by name or meaning, and get ratings, etc. I have no plans for kids anywhere in the immediate future but I like stockpiling possible names to sift through later...when the time is right! :) I love that you can keep your own online list there..beats scribbling them on pieces of paper and then losing them.. :) :)

also, I love the name Peyton, too! :) ~
