In the winter, a light cashmere sweater works well too.

As for the whole, soild color thing - it doesn't have to be in my opinion, for example, if you are wearing a black suit, why cant you have a nice pink and white top underneath it, or something green and black? I believe that your stlye says alot about you, and if you can show some creativity while not crossing the boundaries or requirement, that it might actually take you a long way. Especially if the people signing your paycheck notice this.

HOWEVER!! I DO NOT MULTICOLOR AT INTERVIEWS!! keep it black, keep it skirt suit.
