Hello! My OB/GYN and nurse both told me 25 - 35 lbs is about what you'll usually gain during a pregnancy. A woman who is underweight may gain more, a woman who is overweight at the start of pregnancy may gain less. A petite woman may also gain less than a much taller woman (although the percentage of weight gained would be about the same). I personally gained 20 lbs, but I'm only 5'2".

Talk to your doctor about the weight gain that is most appropriate for your situation. Eating healthy and engaging in moderate exercise (such as 30 minutes of walking) each day will help ensure that you are taking a positive step to care for the health of you and your baby.

Remember that pregnancy is never a time to diet or cut calories without the specific recommendation of your doctor. Eating healthy, well-balanced meals is what both you and your baby need.

How is the weight distributed?

Baby......7 1/2 pounds
Placenta......1 1/2 pounds
Amniotic Fluid......1 3/4 pounds
Maternal breast tissue......1 pound
Increased maternal blood volume......2 3/4 pounds
Uterine enlargement......2 pounds
Increased fluids in maternal tissue......3 pounds
Maternal fat......7 pounds

Total Average:......26 1/2 pounds weight gain

This distribution is approximate and may vary from woman to woman and from pregnancy to pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about your own weight gain during pregnancy.

:-)

It really depends all on the woman. Doctors say that around 25-35 lbs is the recommended amount to gain. However, alot of factors play into it ... including what kind of foods you eat and how the weight distributes throughout your body. Some women experience overall weight gain while others get the tummy and nothing else!

I'm 35 weeks and I've (sadly) gained about 50 pounds. However, I maintain the same excuse as one of the women above: I've been pregnant over Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is so unfair! *lol* I've heard people say you gain more weight with a girl because you're more likely to get all over weight gain. I don't know if its true for everyone, but its definitely been true for me. One of my friends gained 82 pounds during her first pregnancy with her daughter!

The ideal and recommended weight gain for a typical woman is between 25-35 pounds. I personally gained 49 pounds and my excuse is that I was very pregnant at Thanksgiving and Christmas!! The good news is that I lost it all within 9 months of giving birth.

every woman is different. Some don't gain more than 20 pounds. Others like a woman in my sunday school class will gain near 70 pounds. For myself, I gained 35 pounds.

Depends on your healthy food choices, exercise, and family genes.

Take Care,
Amanda

25-30 lbs is the average, but with my first two, I gained 55lbs. This time (I'm 22 weeks pregnant) I've gained 16 lbs so far. Hope it won't be much more than that. ;)

25-30 pounds--but it could be more or less, depending.

your doctor should tell you what an acceptable ammount of weight is for you to gain. (or what he wants you to gain)
