I have a gorgeous Russian Dwarf hamster (female) and everyone loves her, I decided to breed her, as a few friends have requested to have one for her babies. I bought another Russian Dwarf (male) and after an hour of being in the same cage, he was all over my female. He wouldnt stop humping her for a minute! She didnt seem to be happy about it or very willing (but she didnt fight with him) so Im nto sure if she is pregnant! That was Jan 1st, which means by now she should be fatter, but shes not really. But shes gone insane! Hiding all the food, nesting and shes really jumpy. But her tummy isnt firm or bigger. They havent tried to mate again, yet she isnt fat yet... Im sooooo confused. Is she pregnant, or is she going crazy?!

Dwarf hamsters are pregnant for 18-21 days (18 for most) and their pregnancy is only visible in the last 1-3 days before delivery. By my calculations, you still have a few more days to wait before you'll know if she's pregnant. I have a pregnant dwarf myself who is due tomorrow. I didn't notice weight gain until yesterday.

The hiding food, nesting, and being jumpy are all very normal for an expecting hamster. Try not to disturb her and give her extra nesting material. Trust me, she will make a nest fit for a queen if given the proper tools.

I'm not sure if you left the male in with the female, but they will help with the birthing process and will also help raise the young. A word of caution, however, the female goes into heat again immediately after birth and the male will mate with her again, which means that she will still be weaning the first litter when the second litter is born.

Extra protein right now is a good idea. The pregnant, birthing, and nursing process takes a toll on their little bodies and alot of cases of cannibalism are due to loss of protein. Some good ideas are small pieces of cheese, tofu, sunflower seeds, and whole grain bread soaked in warm milk. All of these should be given in moderation, especially if she's not used to it, and fresh veggies should also be offered.

I've pasted a link that lists fruits and vegetables that are safe for hamsters. Be sure to only follow the vegetable guide because dwarfs should not be given fruit. They have a tendency to become diabetic (even at a young age) and it's always best not to tempt fate.

Good luck with you hammie and potential pups.

Some rodents are really good at hiding their bellies! If he mated with her then she is more then likely pregnate. The reason why she didn't seem happy about the mating is because it is painful! (Only humans and dolphins bodies are designed for enjoyment...) Try not to handle her especially her bellie, you can hurt the babies. If she is expecting the litter should be there in another week. Most rodents go into heat every few days. If you do plan on another litter giver her a couple months to recoop first.
