The "love in"? If you mean the '69 Bed-in for peace, it was basically a publicity stunt they pulled to put a greater focus on how awful the war in Vietnam was. Lennon and Yoko had been in the press not too long before that for all kinds of nonsense (1960's media made up tons of hysteria to turn people against them). They basically proclaimed that they would be having a "bed-in" and the press went nuts thinking it would be some kind of live love-making show or something. John even invited journalist who had blatantly written horrible things about him and Yoko in the past. When the press showed up they came down on John about defying what was then the British standard for how people should act towards the government and whatnot. Some were even mentioning how "awful" it was that he was with Yoko instead of his Brit. ex-gf. What they ended up doing in response to this massive coverage was speak and perform blatantly against the war.
