I recently bought a used IBM Thinkpad and hooked up a wireless router at home. When I plug the card into the laptop i get a great signal, between 94-100%. Yet when I try to get online I get "cannot find server." I can go over to my buddy's house where signal strength is only 50% and jump right on. But at home, even though I have full signal, my browser won't open! I have tried every possible configuration (I think) in Internet Options, turned off the router's firewall, you name it. HELP!!! What could be causing this and how can I get this thing online?

WPA and WEP are both disabled. It is a Belkin router, not 2wire.

Keep in mind I'M GETTING SIGNAL FROM THE ROUTER, I just can't open IE.

Thanks!

I have a feeling that the router is no longer set to DHCP, or you may have an SSID on your laptop or on the router. I suggest that you call your friend, and ask if they have a SSID, if not, I would reset the router and usually a router will default to DHCP.

I'm really not an expert at stuff like this, but maby your router is blocking the 80 port, or IE is using some pathetic port or something. Probably the best advice would be if nobody posts a good answer, just buy a new router.

P.S. Rediscover the Web =p Use the Firefox Web Browser www.getfirefox.com
