ok, I had the Treo 600 and it is the same for the Treo 650. First of all Sprint does not support the Treo 600 as a modem anymore. For the Treo 600, you have to go to a third party to buy the program to connect to the internet. But for the Treo 650 to be used as a modem connecting through your desktop computer, you will have to buy one of the data plans and Sprint will supply the program to connect to the internet. But call customer service and they will tell you how to set your computer to use the phone as a modem.

The phone is broad band speed and I got like 10 kbps download. The download rate for the Treo 600 and Treo 650 are the same.

Now if you got the Treo 700 or PPC 6700 (which I got), the download for me is from 20-100 kbps download, Slow during the day and faster during the night. They both have the higher speed.
The Treo 700 internet speed is faster than the Treo 650.

Then if you have a telephone modem internet you can cancel the service and save a little money. Sprint has a plan where you can pay as you go for using the phone as a modem, but then if you are on it a lot, it will cost more than just buying the unlimited data plan. So if for some reason you could get on the internet using your phone as the modem, you will have a very LARGE bill.

I tell everyone, when your contract is up with Sprint do not renew right away. Shop around and see if anyone is cheaper. Also, because I had been with sprint 2 years I got a letter a month later for a 10% if I signed a 2 year contract. Sprint had called earlier and the operator said I could get 5%. I am glad I waited.
