I smoked almost 2 packs aday before I found out I was pregnant with my first child I cut down to 5 a day and smoked all the way threw my pregnancy he came out healthy and happy and is now almost 2 years old with no problems from my smokeing at all. I do not smoke in the house or the car with him and I also sit in non-smoking when we go out to eat. Ever since he was born I have not smoked around him. I wouldn't worry about it and enjoy being pregnant and congrates.

I'm going to list a site but here's the jist...
If you can stop smoking before you're 14 weeks pregnant, you're probably as likely as any other mother to have a healthy, full-size baby.
Mothers thru-out the years have done worse than you...and for much longer and developed reasonably normal children (can't account for parenting), The fact you show concern now is wonderful - Congrats. (Mom was a smoker too) Get to the doctor and they'll be happy to help you on your way to better health...your Baby & You will be Glad for it. Best of luck.

Congratulations and good for you. I quit smoking when I found out my ex-wife was preggers, I thought it would make it easier for her to quit. Didn't happen. She smoked thru both pregnancies and lit up on the way home from the hospital (I drove the kids in a separate car). Both kids came out a little under weight but okay. They're 14 and 16 today and in excellent health. Their mom was not so lucky, she may not see the end of the year.
Based on my experience (not professional medical training) I would say your baby is probably just fine excluding other risk factors. The duration of exposure was relatively short and given the proper prenatal care is likely to be a non factor. You are to be commended for quitting. A healthy baby needs a healthy momma. Believe me when I say to you that watching my ex-wife slowly exit this world has been harder on my kids than any possible justification for the next nicotine fix.

Congrats on both the baby and the stopping smoking. As long as you feel ok, I wouldn't worry about the effects of smoking previously. Good Luck

you should be just fine. I was actually having a cig as I was waiting for my pregnancy test, yea i know, but i was stressed. And when it flat out said PREGNANT ( i got clear blue easy, digital) I threw that cigarette out and havent touched one since. Everything I take in goes to my baby too, and Im not going to give my newborn a cigarette to her mouth, I see it the same if I smoke when pregnant, I wont give my child a cigarette, I cant be selfish.
Good luck to you, and most people cant quit cold turkey but you are doing great! Keep it up. Good luck!

I hope not, I didn't find out I was preg til 9 weeks and didn't fully quit until 12 weeks. As said in the book What to expect when expecting...don't stress or worry about what you've done in the past..just work on now. As long as you are quitting and try to stay healthy for the remainder of pregnancy I'm sure your little one will be fine!

actually ask your doctor about quitting right away. i was about 8 or 9 weeks pregnant, and i smoked about the same as you did. my doctor advised me to slowly quit smoking instead of cold turkey, cuz the baby can experience withdrawl effects. i understand you have cut down and now are quitting but just ask. and as far as complications, the most development happens within the first 8 weeks or so, so there may be effects, but as i said, ask your doctor.

Of course it would be better if you never smoked at all, but the lungs are one of the last things to fully develop. As long as you quit now the baby should be fine.
