Wait a couple hours until it dries. The hard drive is sealed so that shouldn't be an issue. It was just water, so let it dry and try it again later.

All i will assert is greater useful yours than mine. Mine survived an fool for whom i exchange into doing utility engineering spraying sheet-steel shavings from a router on me and my Inspiron. Smoke isn't the only indication of harm. in certainty, a computer does not have an inner capacity grant to create the warmth mandatory for smoke or steam, and basically the CPU gets in addition warm adequate, yet lacking that doesn't advise you probably did not reason a short that could ruin an IC or different ingredient. I won't inform you to renounce on it thoroughly, by way of fact it is achieveable you led to a non everlasting situation which will opposite itself by way of fact the water evaporates. in spite of each thing, a sip isn't particularly comparable to dowsing it. i don't comprehend how the keyboard is configured internally. If it has paper like some greater low value exterior keyboards i've got seen, you may could dry out or replace that.

These days you won't see a fire or a buzz unless the battery blows up.
The water may have shorted your power supply or blow a fuse or if it entered any open chip prongs could have resulted in shorting. Let it dry. If you are brave you could open it and use a hair dryer.
If you are out of warranty try geek squad from best buy to have a look. Or check your classifieds for local pc support guys. They have the tools and equipment to check your computer for you.

Let it dry off for a day or two, use a fan to air it out. Once it seems dry, turn it on and see what happens. If nothing than you probably shorted out the motherboard. Watter is the only thing that will dry off completely. Other liquids like coffee and soda always leave a sticky mess that will corrode the circuits.

The best thing to do is to take it to a laptop repair specialist.
You could also remove the hard drive from it before you do anything else to make sure that the hard drive does not get any water on it.
there are several screws under the laptop to take off a panel to remove the hard drive.
if the hard drive is not wet, you will most likely be able to recover your data.. you can put this hard drive into an external 2.5" case and plug it into your pc and likely get it to work.
Cheers,
Paul

The computer will need to be completely disassembled and dried
Then re assembled and tested.
If it still does not start up the Mainboard most likely has died.
You should get it to a repair agent to pay for a quote on the cost to repair.
Also check to see if this event is covered by your household insurance policy.

Sorry. My friend accidentally bumped her coffee onto her laptop and she is now deciding what kind of new laptop to get -- old one is fried.
