The Tigers chances to win it all are indeed greater this year with the addition of Gary Sheffield. Their pitching is among the best in the AL. Unfortunatley the division has become one of the more competitive in the league. Chicago and Minnesota will have to be reckoned with and they are a good bunch.
There are no clear cut favorites this year but remember Pitching wins Championships.

Considering no team since the Yankees have repeated in about 7 seasons I wouldn't want to bet the farm. They should put Zumaya as the closer that would be a big start because that guy is virtually unhittable. If he stays away from that video game he got busted for playing. The White Sox will be there, the Twins will be there and the Indians might sneak into the race. Easily the best division in baseball.

Realistically, The Tigers do have a good chance to make the playoffs. They now have the experience of the big dance, so that helps a little.
However, I am not going to count on it. It is very hard these days for one team (unless you are the yankees) to go to the World Series back to back.
Jim Leyland will keep The Tigers focused and playing day to day, and with Sheffield's bat in the line-up will help.
The thing that worries me is our pitching; not often does a pitching staff dupiclate a season such as they had in 2006 (just ask the whinny sux).
The Tigers may not win the World Series this year, but I do see them winning in the next few years for sure.

I say they have as a good a shot as anyone. They have made some good signings over the break (sheffield), and if there pitchers didn't make so many errors on bunts last year in the World Series they would have probably won it.
I say its between them and the Yankees for the AL Champsionship. It will be a dogfight and if the Tigers pitchers can make the plays and throw strikes they could take it all.

No, I don't think the Tigers quite have what it takes to win it all. Yes, they have Sheffield. Yes, they'll be better. And yes, their team chemistry is very good. But the World Series is something they'll have to work on the next couple years. Not this year, but maybe in the coming years, if they can get another big acquisition, they might be able to pull one off in the World Series.

Maybe this will be their year, since it seems no team wins it two years in a row. I'd like to see Jim Leyland do it - he's a cool guy.

I have a feeling its not their year. GO CARDINALS!!!!!! But as much as I want St. Louis to win, its not their year either. And if its not St. Louis' year, its definitely not the Tigers year. Too much inexperience. However, it is Chicago's year. Their salary cap is 308 Mil., and unlike the Yankees, very well spent.
