checked that all the chains etc. are intact in the tank, nothing loose. seems that the water is not running in from the valve. turned the knob to see if that would help..still no water.

what you need is a new fill valve. go to the hardware store and tell them you need a fluidmaster fill valve kit.it will cost between 8 and 10 dollars. all you will need to install it is a good pair of pliers. it comes with step by step instructions and will probablly take you 20 to 30 minutes to install. it is very easy to do.make sure you shut off the valve to the toilet and then flush it to get the water out of the tank before you start ,also have a little bucket handy to catch any water that remains in the tank. that could save you from cleaning up a mess later. i am a plumber and this is what is what you need to do. dont even waste your time trying to fix the old one. good luck

did somebody bump the knob that's on the pipe on the floor that lets the water in? If not then call any older male in your family or person that you know who has a house and they will give you directions. You can also call a small hardware store. Call all those "before" calling a plumber. You didn't say if you own the house or are a renter. If a renter then call the office. Ask around in the neighborhood to see if maybe other people are having the same problem. Perhaps they are testing the water or cleaning the pipes or something.

number one -- shut --turn off the water supply for that particular toilet --the knob that is just under the toilet, kind of. if you are not a handy person let someone else handle it. then --open the cover of the reservoir and get yourself a screw driver, there is a screw you have to loosen or tighten...the flow of water --provided all other instruments are in place. make sure the water fills but goes away quickly because of a worn plastic cup inside the reservoir. (see various pictures on the elements of a reservoir on the web pages). all this after you open the shut water supply. hope it does help, it needs practice and experience too.

Check the inlet valve (near the floor). Turn it to the left to make sure it's open.

Is the lever working? Take the lid of the tank off, push the lever, make sure it is connected to the chain, and the chain is pulling up on the stopper at the bottom of the tank. I'm sure it is something with that.

You can easily replace any of those parts.

take the lid off the tank and you will find that the chain attached to the lever has come loose and requires to be hooked back on. Really easy as long as nothing is broken. Good luck.
