Possibly because the PR stunts they perform grab headlines and aren't the reasonable, polite methods of discourse that politicians and corporations favour (in order to set the pace of any change).

The tactics have worked though, and public conciousness of the issue has increased, the fur industry is certainly not a fan.

I have no problem with their basic core beliefs, if they want to be vegetarians and use no animal products and all that- that is great - that is their choice to live that way- if they want to give information to inform people of why they live that way and try to encourage others to , that is fine- but when it comes to actions that traumatize children, destroy personal property, invade and disresepct other people's space- this I have a huge problem with- I realize that not all PETA members would behave this way- but I would be careful of being associated with a group that did not discourage this inapproriate behavior.

do they?

it's not just the Australian media.
the American media does this too.

some people in PETA certainly do some outlandish things

but in general, the media (and society) like to call people who argue things that are out of the mainstream weird and crazy. this is nothing new, unfortunately. they call them weird because they are afraid of change.

if australian PETAs are anything like american PETAs, then it's because they have they're members perform over-the-top stunts to get their points across...like throwing fake blood on people who wear fur coats, or on naked women in their demonstations. they are extreme and graphic and ruthless at times when trying to make their point.

I don't know, it would be nice if they praised them a little to help all the animals from being abused. PETA kicks butt! They fight for what they believe in. Animals should never be abused and used.
