where do i get the fairy tears and where is the cave of ordeals

You can get your first bottle of the tears by giving Jovani (the gold statue guy) 20 poe souls. You can't get any more until you beat the Cave of Ordeals.
Now, to get to the cave, go to lake Hylia and take the cannon's 'Oasis Flight' to get back to the desert (don't warp to the mirror chamber). Now, go east(wii) or west(gc) along the south wall of the desert. You'll eventually come to a plateau with a tree and a giant rock thing sticking out of the ground. Clawshot up then climb up further. You'll be attacked by the usual twilight enemies. Beat them to create a new warp point here. Go up to the rock and Midna will mention how it looks man-made. Now warp to the Bridge of Eldin. Midna will take the rock with you and fill in the gap in the bridge. Warp back to the desert, and then go up to where the rock was. There's now a set of stairs leading down into the Cave of Ordeals.
Now to get the Fairy's Tears, you'll have to beat all 50 floors in one shot(as in, if you leave you'll have to start over). The great fairy at the end will give you the Tear's and then you'll be able to get them at the light springs around Hyrule. Keep in mind you can only have one bottle of them at a time.

The guy is right, but you cannot go through the entire cave until you have the double clawshots. Even so, you should have at least 15 hearts, and several fairies. As for equipment, the giant quiver found in the tent in Hyrule is a must. Normal bombs and 3 bomb bags are good too. Hawkeye is optional because the rooms are small and it is not too hard to hit stuff with the normal bow. You will find all manners of enemies here, and the final floor will have 3 darknuts, so make sure you have most of your sword skills too. I beat the cave without magic armor, but I will get it before I attempt the cave again. Beating 10 floors will make the great fairy unlock fairies in various springs and after beating all floors, the great fairy will be present in all springs and give you the fairy tears.
