One, make sure if you are taking calcium suppliments that it's one that also has magnesium in it, as it takes both in order for your body to use a calcium suppliment.

Also, depending on how severe your lactose intolarance is, some people can drink milk and eat some dairy, by taking over the counter pills when they eat dairy or using drops that are put into milk so that an individual who is lactose intolerant can drink milk. My understanding is that the drop nutralize the lactose in milk.

There are also several lactose free milk products on the market now days, in the dairy section of your store.

In the Merck Manual of Medical Information, Home Edition 1997, on page 653 it states the following are all high in Calcium. Eating some of these foods may make sure you get enough calcium from food sources, so you don't have depend on obtaining your calcium needs by pill.

Milk and dairy which you can't have.

Meats in general
Fish, which also has magnesium
Eggs
Many cereal products, many of which also have magnesium
Most beans
Most fruits and vegetables, greef leavy vegetables have
magnesium

Remember to also eat foods with magnesium in them so that you get both, which are both needed for healthy bones, teeth, nails, etc.

Magnesia containing foods are:

Leafy Green vegetables, Nuts, Cereal Grains and Seafood. The good thing about most Seafoods and Nuts is that they also have omega 3, which is great for the heart.

If you can afford it, getting with a nutritionist and going over what you eat would be a good idea. He/she could help you see if you are getting enough Calcium/Magnesia through food sources and if you actually need suppliments or not.

GOOD LUCK!

I am also lactose intolerant, and at times I have used Lactaid pills when I feel I need to eat dairy products. Be careful though, they initially worked very well, but, then they totally lost their effectiveness. I also take calcium pills, eat lactose free ice cream, and try to get calcium for other supplements, like orange juice with calcium, and leafy green vegetables. The funny thing is, I've found that I can eat some dairy foods, I just have to eat small amounts so that my body can digest it.
