How about making military or college care packages? Nothing like being away from home. You'd be suprised what that and a note or letter will do to brighten someones day. You could ask a bunch of people to donate items and then work with a few of your friends to pack them up and mail them off.

What's fun will depend upon what you like to do. If you're into sports, arts, travel, film that's what you should try to use as the focus of your service hours. For example, if you're into film, how about running a film program for a community center. Many places have inexpensive projectors you can use to show dvds.

If you're into music you could try to organize a concert for a local community center, seniors center, church.

If you like building things, sign on with habitat for humanity or a similar group.

You should come up with something you'd like to do, use that as you guide for the type of organization you'd like to work with and then contact them with a proposal. Better if you've taken the time to write it out and can send them a copy.

I volunteer at my local animal shelter. I don't know how old you are, but to volunteer at mine, you had to be 16. It's honestly the best experience I've had in a long time. I've met some great people and I always have a great time.

That all depends on where you're located and what you like to or can do(as in ability).
I would ask your guidance counselor to refer some agencies to you.
