Yo, dude, sure asked a big question.
If you realy want to buy make sure you get someting you will grow into. By the way boards are entierly based on weight and experiance. So get a board were you are at the bottom of the size rung. So if a baord holds 120 - 140 you are right in the middle. you need to find a board that is more like 130 - 150. you will get the most life out of your ride.
Also think about how much you are going up per year. if you only go 1 or 2 times, then just rent. if you go 10 or more per season, then look caerfully for a board for you. Each make will have a different size board for your weight.
enjoy

The biggest for a snowboard is right under the nose, the smallest is under the chin.

bottom of the chin... if its the first board hes ever had, im sure its not goin to matter if its " long for speed" or "short for tricks" rent him sumthing from the lodge and he can jack the edges up all he wants learning how to stop and run over skiers. then when hes a PRO get him sumthing that hes comfortable on, by that time he will tell you what he wants..

It's not all about the length of the board. It's about how you ride, where you ride, what type of riding you do. Cheap rule is the chin rule, but if you are serious about getting a board, go to a local shop and have them set you up.
