Because the president and his family live theire it's a house......and it's white.
The name originated as early as 1812 and referred to the whitewash that was used to protect the porous limestone walls from the effects of freezing water. Teddy Roosevelt made the nickname official in 1901.

its called the white house because the when it got burned out they painmted it with white wash because they couldn't afford propper paint because they were in a war of survival.
