Why did the Soviet Union collapse but not China?

The USSR lost mostly because the Soviets were interested in competing with the U.S. Reagan challenged the USSR to a spending war in regards to weapons. The USSR tried to compete with us and failed because they could not keep up with the weapons we designed and created...mainly on an economic basis...we spent more money than they could, but they tried to keep up - and they went broke.

China, on the other hand, has not tried to compete with anyone because,

1. They don't have to. Their Army is bigger (we're talking ten times what we have) than any other on the planet.

2. They know they would lose economically.

Currently China has many Nuclear Weapons, but no means to deliver them to the U.S. This is a major reason we do not fear their Communist regime. Also, due to the fact that the Chinese are becoming increasingly important electronically and with their cheap labor - the U.S. government need not help them...they (the people) will understand their economic importance to the world and a revolution will not be necessary.

I think the communist regime will eventually fade out of China and either accept capitalism or be destroyed.

China is going to become very important to the world economy (mainly with transportation - IE - oil, cars, buses, even bicycles) in the next ten years that we will have no choice but accept them as a major world power.

Capitalism will win over in China.

Because China is a different country? And they are not Russia? hmmmmmm? China did not pit itself against American capitalism either( which represents the world's power source, Euro-dollar). Also China had Hong Kong for support and the British Government as well as many others including America. China has been the oldest and knows it's Pand Q's in the export and import systems and can survive off of other countries like India etc.,

China had been more or less one country during its entire history, while Soviet Union consisted of many formerly independent countries, occupied by Russia. Those countries had never stopped wishing their independence back and regained it as soon as there was a chance, when the government and its policy in Soviet Union changed (I mean Gorbachev).

They spent lots and lots of money funding their end of the cold war, and in the end all the money in the country ended up lining the pockets of a greedy few, and finally the people got sick and tired of it. The Soviet Unino also had very tight borders to import exports, and they were never really succesful in those markets (except the weapons market). Russia is also very diverse in its peoples across the land, and part of its breakdown was also due to differences between cultures in its many provinces.

China, on the other hand, has adopted a more light-hearted version of communism. And as I'm sure you can tell, they are extremely successful economically, especially in the export markets.

Because the Stronghold of the Soviets made a failure precedent.
The Chinese got so afraid, that they were capable of learning.

Sure, HK, Taiwan, and LA were other strong factors for saving mainland China from political isolationism and failure.

Arms race with the US destroyed their economy. China is perched to be to take their place as leaders of Socialism, yet with their market reforms have become a mixture of US economic choice with strong Solviet style control. I have heard a few economists classify China as a model for other authoritarian governments. The China we know today is not what Mao wanted, just look at his little red book.
