I filed a complaint against my boss just before the holidays for something she was trying to make me do that was unethical. She turned the tables on me and brought up old dirt and started disciplinary action against me. There is an investigation pending but the policy of the company won't talk to certain parties involved, only direct employees, some of who I know they've not contacted. What should I do? I have a monetary committment to stay with this company for at least another 6 months. I believe I won't hear anything else on my complaint and they now won't allow me to transfer to another dept. Should I talk to a lawyer or just leave this alone? The folks in HR seem to believe me but I also get the sense their hands are tied and I've just ruffled the wrong feathers.

Document, document, document and talk to an attorney. If you have done things in the past that could get you in trouble the question will come up as to why your boss waited so long to take disciplinary action. It could very well back-fire on her but you should be prepared. If there is some impropriety on the part of the boss, it will come out in the disciplinary process. Like I said, document, document, document to cover your six.
good luck

If you believe your rights were violated, you should consult with an attorney that specializes in this field. Companies should not be allowed to violate employees rights by threatening them or bringing up matters that are not relevant to the complaint.

In work its best just to keep quiet. Don't get involved in office politics because some workers are still trying to relive their glory days when they were back in school. I hate my job and I hate certain individuals with a passion, I know I'm better than them both physically and intellectually but I play it real cool and let them think they are the bigger man. I'm just out collecting paychecks and it keeps me out of trouble.
