a glorified Taurus and the engines are the same. Is this true?

Yes and No.

The S-type is built on the same platform as the Lincoln LS (another Ford product)

If you have the 3.0 liter V6 engine, then yes, that engine is a modified version of the same engine that is in the Ford Taurus. The 4.2 V8 is a Jaguar engine however.

So it's actually a glorifieid Lincoln LS, but hey the Lincoln LS is a pretty good car as Fords go. One of the best Ford sedans ever and there is still plenty of uniquely Jaguar things to distinguish your car from the LS>
It is very likely that there are more than a few Ford parts in places where you can't see them on your car, like suspension components, relays, switches etc.

Ford is not shy about sharing parts and platforms between Ford products and some of their premium brands, but they seem to have learned their lesson about not going too far with this when the 1st generation X-type was widely criticized in Europe for being heavily based on the Ford Mondeo (sold here as the Ford Contour) and they have since toned back the cheaper Ford content in the premium brands or at least done it more discretely.

Look at it this way though, Jaguar's reliability and quality control is probably better now than it was before Ford owned them. Jaguars were known for years for rampant electrical problems and reliability issues.

Second, be glad that Ford owns Jaguar instead of GM. GM is much more blatant and stupid about how it handles it's premium brands. For example, rebagding a Subaru and selling it as a Saab and when they decided Saab needed an SUV, instead of letting Saab engineers develop a Saab SUV, the way Ford allowed Volvo to develop the excellent XC90, they instead took a big honking GM piece of crap Trailblazer and slapped a Saab badge on it. They have all but ruined Saab for the people who loved that brand.

Ford at least has a little more humility and "tries" to make an effort to allow it's premium brands retain some of their own unique identities.

More like a Lincoln than a tauras, the Jaguar and the Lincoln LS are both have the same chasis and frame, the skins are the only difference between them and maybe some interior things.

the S-Type isnt but the X-type is. dont be suprised if it goes that way soon though. if i was gonna spend that much money for a car though, i would get the 2007 Corvette Z06. more power, faster and better fuel economy than a jag. 16 city 26 hwy.
