OMG!!!! that's an interesting question in US is different because they can make their rights defend them BUT...
My wife went on a missionary trip to north Africa and previous to the voyage they had to read a book about the Muslims and the way of living, and she told me that the book wasn't exaggerating at all.
Women can't go to a public rest room because its "men hours", when men are walking on the same side walk, women have to step down for them to pass, women go to the beach early in the morning FULLY CLOTHED .....then is men time.
I don't have the title of the book, but if you're interested go to the christian library and ask about the topic to anyone planing a missionary trip, you'll find it shocking.

Yes it is true its the way they are brought up and the way there life works. For example if the husband dies and the wife doesn't have any relatives who are male she will marry again or die becuase she cannot work or do much sometime she can't even leave the house without a male.

Im not muslim but I know a muslim husband and wife who are the most pleasent ppl and get along sooo well. I think your question is a bit general and stereotypical. A lot of non muslim couples beat each other up and do worse. It depends on the couple. But there is a lot of oppression against women in muslim countries

I think it works like this: The wife is the property of the husband. The husband is the law in the house. If the wife slavishly follows all the husband's need and wishes then all is well in paradise.

It depends on the standard you apply to them. Islam has a different view of women and their role in society than most of the western world. By our standards we would probably say they treat their women like crap. However, is it completely fair to judge a person based on how they act within their cultural norms. We can say we think Islam is wrong for it's views on the treatment of women, but is it fair to condemn the Muslim for acting in accordance with his religion or culture.

The fundamentalist sects of these religions carry that common trait: the women are property to be treated as the man sees fit. You see it in all fundamentalists, it is all about control.
