Why doesn't the wizarding world just get a machine gun or a hand grenade to kill Voldemort?

Thanks for your interesting answers!

What made me think of this was a comment made by another wizard in another series...can't remember if it was Elminster from the Forgotten Realms or Zed from the Sword of Truth books...who said that it didn't matter how powerful of a wizard you were, you could still be killed by an arrow.

BTW, of course Voldemort couldn't be killed completely until all of the horcruxes are destroyed.

Because the story was written by liberals for liberals. And in the liberal world view, people simply do not own guns, nor are they allowed to protect themselves from people who want to hurt them. And God forbid you take it upon yourself to kill an evil person. That's unthinkable in a world created by liberals.

Think deeper about your question. Why doesn't someone simply put a bullet in Voldermort's head? It would be one thing if the author gives a plausible reason for why this couldn't happen. Certainly Voldemort kills innocent humans and wizards. You never see one of his victims level a shotgun his way only to have him laugh off a lead slug through his heart. The very act of raising a hand against evil or that normal people have any power to do anything about it is so UNTHINKABLE in the author's way of looking at the world that it never occurs to her that it is rather odd that this is left unexplained. The fact that people notice shows a disconnect between the way the author thinks about the world and how her audience thinks about it. A suspicious person might think she is attempting to change the way others think in a highly negative way.

But, if Voldemort were ever stupid to show up at say, MY house....well, the wizard community would be pondering the mystery of why he suddenly disappeared without explanation.

Maybe it's something like only certain weapons can be used to kill him. Like only certain things can kill a vampire, even if you can get them as a normal person, but maybe wizards and witches can only die at the hand of another fellow wizard/witch. Or the weapon is something that needs a spell to make them work. Or simply something muggles can't think of. Not to mention, no muggle knows of Voldemort and many of the witches and wizards live in communities with no muggles present. So where would they obtain them? This is a very good question though...

I'm sure that Voldemort is able to use alchemy. Otherwise he wouldn't be the most powerful wizard in the world. Considering Nicolas Flamel (a much weaker wizard) is able to use it and created a philospher's stone, doesn't it make sense that Voldemort, the only man Albus Dumbledore fears, can use alchemy to transmutate muggle weaponry? Therefore, no, wizards would not be able to kill Voldemort with muggle technology.

Awesome question!

(1)Maybe they don't work in the presence of magic (Hogwarts has no electricity, and interrupts Muggle technology)
(2)Maybe ol' Voldy is just too powerful
(3)Maybe somebody will actually try it in the next book

BTW Bruce Lee asked that same question in Enter the Dragon-- weird parallel, huh?

In a conflict with all their forces, Sauron might crush Voldemort. keep in mind, Sauron additionally has human beings, wargs, Uruk-hais, the 9 Bewitched Kings, and the White Wizard Saruman as members of his military. In a one-on-one combat, Sauron nonetheless might win, as Voldemort remains a human. specific, his capacity is fairly stable, yet his understanding are constrained while in comparison with what Sauron replace into waiting to do (even while he replace into purely interior the variety of a watch).

Clearly He Who Must NOT be Named is too powerful for muggle 'magic'

'Cause he's an evil wizard! If you had evil magical powers and weren't technically human you could easily recover from a few dozen machine gun rounds!
