garage band is a program i use to create music for my films. and you dont have to worry about copyrights.

you can buy CD's of recorded music for just that purpose. It gives the buyer the license to use it. Ask at specialty suppliers.

The problem with copyright expired public domain music is not the music itself, it is the copyright of the performers which may still be in effect. If you perform it yourself or have a friend do it and record it for your film, it is also cool.

find some musicians in your area willing to compose and collaborate with you.
as a type of artist (filmmaker), you should be the first to realize that artists (of all kinds) need as much exposure as they can get.
just my opinion. you can always find something thats in the public domain, instead.

Fine a local band you like and pay them a fee to create something original for you. I bet they would be stoked.
