I've had my period for 3 years now, I started young; in 6th grade at the age of 11. I don't know what is wrong with me, everyone says you should get in the flow with it and be able to live with it but I just can't. I'm so uncomfortable I can't even talk about it, I also am very active and play lots of sports; I am always afaird I will leak. Or even worse leak in school. I dont know if that sounds stupid, but I dont know what to do. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks a bunch!

Since you noted that you are active, try tampons when you play sports so you won't leak though pads are 99.9% leak-proof. I only wear tampons when I'm swimming laps (on my period, that is).

Your question is not stupid; you're merely wanting to know more info. I would suggest using a high quality pad such as Always or Kotex; don't fall for the cheap store brands. Also, never wear pads with stretchy legging-pants because they will stick out (learned this the hard way). And don't wear light colored or white pants on your period, either. That can leave spots on your pants in undesirable places.

Hope that helps. It's good that you're exercising because it helps ease your menstruation cramps.

You can talk to your doctor about continuous birth control pills, I'm not sure if they are available for 14 year olds but they basically stop you from having periods for as long as you take them (might take a few months to become effective).

I used to worry about the same stuff when I was your age, it's completely normal. Once you get to high school it's not as bad, girls talk about it more and figure out ways to make it easier to deal with. I would wear 2 pairs of underwear some days, use a thick pad AND a tampon, and change them both every 2-3 hours just to be safe. Keep a spare pair of underwear and jeans in your locker at school in case you ever need to change. At home I would put a towel on the bed in case I leaked at night so I wouldn't wreck the mattress. The "night time" pads are longer and make it less likely that you will leak.

By the time you are 20 you will be used to it. You still won't like it, but at least you'll be an expert at dealing with it. Your body will become more predictable and you will figure out what combination of tampons, pads, etc works for you. I hardly ever think about leaking now, although I definitely did for the first 5 years or so.

You need to find someone you can talk to about it. Your mom or older sister is the best option, followed by your doctor, school nurse, other relative. Remember this happens to every female, we all get through it!

I got my period in 6th grade also and i felt the same way. Its something that you just got to live with, eventually you will get comfotable with it and relize 99% of women get it. When you are in school or playing sports just make sure you are changing your pad or tampon regulary so there wont be more of a chance you will "leak" or anything. Believe me you'll get used to it!

Nothing is wrong with you. It's just really awkward to bleed out of your crotch. But if you're feeling so awkward about it that you can't discuss it with anyone (not even an older female relative or a doctor/nurse) you need to recognize that this is a normal part of your body and your health. If you have questions about this at any time, please ask someone qualified to help you. Most likely any new concern is completely normal, but it'd be helpful to you if you had someone to talk to about this in case something comes up.

You will be uncomforable at that time of the month! You'll probably have cramps, feel more tired, moody. That is all normal. You can take Advil for the cramps, and just make sure you use thick pads or a tampon and a pad if you're afraid you'll "leak". There's nothing wrong with you! Welcome to womanhood!!!

me too, mine was very irregular (would come after 2 weeks, or even 3 months once, totally unpredictable) and extremely painful. forced me to miss school and everything. i got mine very young too, like you so maybe thats a factor.

go see your doctor, he or she can give you something to help. probably a low dose birth control pill, which is what i use. wonder pills, those are. they'll reduce the amount of your flow, ease the pain and you'll know exactly what day you'll get it and for how long.

Just realize that 50% of the entire world's population has to deal with it every month, too. Even celebrities, athletes and models feel how you feel.

Wear tampons and a pantiliner. It will make you feel more confident.
