No. You're thinking of idiocy. Political Correctness is fine- it can be taken overboard, but who really minds having to say firefighter instead of fireman? That's PC. And Before you ask, one of the scoutmasters in my troop is a volunteer firefighter- and female.

The wikipedai article is decent, but not great.

Political correctness is restricting language and behavior so that individuals and groups are not offended. This has a negative outcome of creating an environment of less honesty. It can also be dangerous. For example, airport security cannot racial profile so they might pat down an elderly woman, but let the middle easterner with the shoe bomb go through security without the proper level of scrutiny. This behavior can also hamper police departments from getting the bad guys because of the same racial profiling restriction can cause the drug dealer from being scrutinized.

Yes, it's substituting your own innate beliefs and convictions for those beliefs and convictions that you perceive to be the general consensus, even if that consensus has been manipulated or manufactured by others trying to promote their own agenda. It is a way of "fitting in" based upon a misconception of what most people believe or think.

No. I would say that's a gross exaggeration. There is an element of ignoring reality in some cases, but PC is mostly about civility.

Nope. I don't recognize that as political correctness. I have almost no idea what that person is ranting about, and it does not remind me at all about what "political correctness" means.
