One of my friends (emo) recommended me Bright Eyes because they have lyrics that suit you. I decided to check them out, and they were pretty good (now my favorite band). But when I checked on wikipedia (url: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_Bands), they weren't listed in the list of emo bands. Why is this?

I'm not that emo. I'm more of a mixture of emo and goth.

I don't label. It's just that I learn this stuff from other sources and then form my own opinion or just form my own opinion from my own experiences from being around whatever it is that...

...

I can't explain that many things good. Just pay no attention to what I just said.

I know they are indie rock and I say this not because of the vocals but because of the lyrics.

You can't really say that the vocals are the reason because if you compare the way Conor Oberst sings to the way the lead singer (not sure what his name is) of Cursive sings, they are very different.

the weren't listen under emo, because bright eyes is widely known as an "indie" singer.

indie music is typically soft whispery vocals... often with light rock music.
indie is a lot about fashion too. indie singers usually wear tight clothing and have messy hair......

with conor oberst, his vocals are often raspy, vibrating, and weird. but i kind of like some of his songs.

emo is usually less subtle with its intent lyrically than indie is.

Oh gawd, YES Bright Eyes is emo

I am from Omaha where Conor Oberst lives and yes that music is emo. I seriously only liked ONE of their songs out of all their albums. I've heard them all because a good friend of mine moved all the way from california to nebraska just to be near Conor. I don't even think I am spelling his name right!

staggering Eyes is emo-esque. specific, these days Conor's been leaning extra to the indie-human beings fringe of the spectrum, however the 1st few albums have been unquestionably emo on an acoustic guitar. to not point out he replace into (and in all probability nonetheless is? i've got not been holding up) on Saddle Creek interior the late 90s/early 00s, which replace into truly pushing emo and making it what that's immediately with bands like Cursive, the sturdy existence, Sorry approximately Dresden, and so on... unquestionably, interior the historic previous of emo, bands like Fugazi and embody set the degree, then bands like Sunny Day genuine sources and Modest Mouse mixed it with selection rock, then bands like Cursive and staggering EYES set it up because of the fact the "scene" fad, and the present set went mainstream with it. because of the fact then, staggering Eyes, Cursive, and so on... have all started straying from "emo", and are not often referred to as that anymore. yet 7-9 years in the past while it replace into first truly gaining velocity, staggering Eyes replace into generally (and mind-blowing) refered to as "emo".

Theyre indie rock.
Wikipedia is all about researching, before posting info. Which is why, if you look up emo music on wikipedia, you'll find that its completly opposite of what most people think. ;-)

No - they're definitely not emo... If I were forced to classify them, I'd say they were indie post-rock.
