i got a pap smear this weekend and the nurse practitioner diagnosed me with a yeast infection and gave me some cream for it.
i've never had one before, or at least knew that i had one.
i feel normal and i'm not experiencing any itching or clumpy discharge or other symptoms i've read about.
it's kindof weirding me out because what if i had one for a long time but never knew about it? is this even possible/normal?

The answer is, yes. Yeast infections come in different intensities and some are also a result of a ping pong effect (from guys). If you consume foods or sweets with lots of sugar, back off. Eat plenty of yogurt even if you dislike it. If you still get it after the cream etc...get him checked.

Yes it is strange that you aren't having the usual symptoms of a yeast infection-if you have ever had one I am sure you would know it- lots of itching, burning when you pee sometimes, and cottage cheese like discharge that smells- so I would have to say you were misdiagnosed by this nurse practitioner, talk to your doctor about it!

Sure...not everyone feels the same things....It could have been early or your symptoms were masked by something else...don't worry about it....it's easy to clear up and you can take over the counter stuff now...(monistat) All women have a certain amt of yeast in their viginas, it's just when it gets out of ph, that you feel itchy and get the discharge...you're normal..

Yes, it's possible. But it's more likely that you have just come down with it and the yeast cells have just started to grow and they were caught on the PAP.

If you have been on an antibiotic recently, that can cause yeast infections.

Happens to a lot of people. Nothing to worry about.
