On reality shows.. if someone is eating something or wearing something.. that have to put black tape or something over the name brand?

The network has to have permission from the company in order to show their name on TV. Otherwise the company (or manufacturer) has no say how their name or product name is being used. It's easier and cheaper for the network to block out the name. Hope this helps>

One word> Royalties.
If the product is placed in a program or movie without the companies authorization, then the producers of the program must pay royalties, it they get approval or an endorsment, then they could actually make money on it (or atlease get the use of the product for a reduced cost or free).
(think about certain movies only using Chrysler vehicles etc.)

The product being covered didn't pay to be seen. If they didn't cover it, the reality show (or any show) would be giving them a free commercial.

to block the brand name. in some cases companies PAY to display their products in tv and movies. that is called product placement.

Every tv station has sponsors and if the items used on the show conflict w/ their sponsors the censor them.

Something about advertising, they don't want to pay that company money.

becuase the show doesnt want its audience to think their promoting that item--like a sponsor

the company didn't want to be promoted and it's illegal to do so without permission !
