You are right.. there has been a lot of speculation that he could lose his job if they lost but I don't think he should.
Yes he is unable to get it done in the play-offs but lets look at a couple of things:
1) He managed his team to a 14-2 season.
2) Tom Caughlin got a 1 year extension with the Giants after a 8-9 season with all sorts of unnecessary Drama.
3) The only lost by 3 points to the Patriots. It was an excellent hard faught game. Both temas made mistakes both teams played hard and put it all out on the field. The end result could have gone either way.
If the Chargers fired coach Schottenheimer because they lost to the Patriots it would be a huge mistake

No. The season was just too good to cause a firing. There's one thing that no coach can teach. That's experience. It's very rare that a team does not struggle in its first playoff game. Yes, they were in just two years ago but clearly there have been significant roster changes since then, Rivers, Merriman, Gates and I'm sure many more. I just don't think you can put this one on Marty...well except for that situation when he went for it on 4th and 11 in the first quarter. Simply inexplicable. That's the only thing I would second guess him about, especially in a game they lose by 3, but they may never make it there without his coaching through the season and in the future with playoff experience it may not be an issue. Keep him.

The Chargers should keep Marty, that way SD will be assured to never win a playoff game
