resident evil for nintendo ds......help!?

Question

i am at a very early stage in the game where you walk down a hallway and a mutant dog jumps through the window, but it keeps killing me! the gun and the knife won't seem to stop it! any suggestions on how i can kill it?

RUN DUDETTE!!! RUN LIKE THE F'''ING WIND...Or walk backwards thru the hallway and the moment it breaks thru shoot it... it falls and then do it 3 more times and it should die...
