I've worked in schools districts with and without uniforms. I personally went to Catholic school where uniforms were manditory. The idea is to make a level playing field through appearance. When I was a student I hated not being able to be creative in my clothing and when I went to college I had no idea how to dress myself 5 days a week!! I know it sounds dumb...but it's true! LOL

I think uniforms could be positive, but unfortunately, kids still identify others as rich, poor, etc. Clothing doesn't really make that much of a difference.

Good question!

I teach at a private school and find that many people do not like uniforms, either. I do not like the fact that students must pay for them, but they do help to equal out the students better. Whether you're rich or poor, you all wear the same clothes.

You may want to find out if your school has any way for you to more easily afford the clothes. Some schools in America have funding, etc... for students with low income.

If I had had the choice to wear uniforms in school, I would have. There were a lot of kids with more $$ than me and that always made me feel bad when it came to clothes. Uniforms make everyone similar and then the focus can be on your education.

I go to a private school too. I find uniforms to be very annoying at times. However, the upside is you do not have to buy new outfits every year and you do not have to think of what to wear each morning. In fact, I'd say uniforms would be cheaper.

I think it's un necessary. I went to a public school, and had to wear, what they called "common-dress". It stressed my parents out, and buying the color of clothes required was a mission.
I think that by taking away the priviledge of what a kid can and cannot wear is absurd. Not everyone can afford it, and some people are not comfortable with wearing the uniform the school assigned (i.e. girls having to wear skirts).

I feel that uniforms should be mandatory in all schools, and all grades...from elementary to high school. There is too much distraction, especially in the public high schools where there is supposed to be a dress code but no one bothers to enforce it, from the girls who dress like they're going to a party or worse, to the boys who insist on wearing their pants down around their behinds and have to constantly pull them up just to be able to walk. Uniforms would eliminate these distractions, and then maybe some learning could be accomplished. After all isn't that what school is supposed to be for?

I go to a public school and therefore have never had to wear uniforms, but I would rather have uniforms even though I know many who would disagree with me. It's just that I spend like half an hour each morning to pick out what to wear for school...first you need to find an outfit that looks cute, make sure you haven't seen it on anybody in school before, and then make sure you haven't worn it in at least a week (depending on your own personal guidelines). To me it's just to stressful. But if I had a uniform, you wouldn't need to worry about any of that, and you would just need to make sure that you have a clean one and throw it on. It would cut my mornings down to at least 25 minutes, giving me that much more time to sleep!

I will suggest that private school must have uniforms and it includes I.D. This is to distinguish authorities and other staff of the school that children in uniform must be given special attention and care. Children or students in uniform feel secured and protected at the same time their socialization increased.

i went to private school for 13 years and never gave the uniform much thought...it was just something that you wore...looking back though, it was a lot easier than having to pick out what to wear everyday (especially since i have no style)...

Personally, I think it's kind of silly, especially if you have to buy your uniforms (because then you have to buy twice as many clothes--one set for school, one for home). Still, it does eliminate the question of what to wear to school.
