90g=.09kg (move the decimal over 3 places to the left)
32.6mm=.0326m (same as above)
I did tell you how to do it. You don't need to multiply or divide.....you can, but it tkes a long time. Everything is based on 10, so all you are doing is moving the decimal over.
K H D unit d c m
You started with g and needed to go 3 places over to the left to get to K, so you move the decimal 3 places to the left. Same with the other, you started with mm and needed to move 3 places to the left to get to m, so move the decimal 3 places to the left. This method works for every other metric conversion there is.
Wow, your teacher is making you go the long way. Okay, going from a small unit (g) to a larger one (K) you need to divide. To find out how much to divide by, start with 1 at your starting place (g) and add zeros for each place you move over...in this case 3, so 3 zeros....you are going to divide by 1 with 3 zeros (1000). So 90dividedby1000=.09 . Same for the second one...you are going from a small unit (mm) to a larger unit (m), so you will divide. To find out how much to divide by, start with 1 where you currently are (mm) and add a zero for each time you move over...in this case 3 times, so 3 zeros. You are dividing by a 1 with 3 zeros (1000). So 32.6dividedby1000=.0326.
Now, if you were going from a large unit (K) to a smaller one (cm), then you would multiply. You'd use the same method. Start with 1 and add a zero for each place you move over...in this example, you would move 5 places, so you would add 5 zeros.....you would be multiplying by a 1 with 5 zeros (100000). So, for example, 5K=__cm would be 5times100000=500000cm.
Small unit to big (mm to cm)--> Divide
Big unit to small (cmto mm)--> Multiply
As to how to actually divide 90 by 1000 on paper.....I can't remember right off hand....I've become used to the calculator over the years. Um...I'm thinking about it.....
So you already know how to do 90dividedby1000? Good, because I can't remember. Now 1000times90 is the easy one...it's just like any other multiplication problem....start with zero times everthing on the top, then do 9 times everything on the top (don't forget the zero at the end of the second row), then add. But in your problem you gave, you are dividing, not multiplying.
32.6mm=__m. You are going from small to big, so you will divide. To find out how much to divide by, start with 1 at your current spot (mm) and add a zero each time you move over to get to m.....which is 3 times, so you will add 3 zeros to that 1 you started with...so you will be dividing by a 1 with 3 zeros (1000). So 32.6dividedby1000=.0326. I hope I am making sense.
Okay, since I haven't heard back from you, I guess you got it (or went to bed). I hoped I helped. Good luck on your test.

For metric conversions I was also told to use this mnemonic (*sp) to help study...
King Henry Dances Merrily During Cold Months
KHDMDCM
K=Kilo
H=Hecto
D=deka
M=meters, grams, or liters (depending on what your measuring)
D=Deci
C=centi
M=Milli
Then you just move the decimal over.
For example for 90g--> kg
KHDM.DCM Note where I put the decimal
K.HDMDCM The decimal point moves over 3 spaces to the left
So in 90.g Again note the decimal
Move it 3 spaces to the left
._90 kg ~~~~~~~ Then fill the empty spaces with zeros giving you the following answer
0.09 kg.
I hope I explained it well. It's easier to be shown on paper. Good Luck with your studying!

That's unit conversions.
1000 g = 1 kg. You do this: 90g x (1 kg/1000g).
1000 mm = 1 m. You do this: 32.6mm x (1m/1000mm).
