I was installing a lock on an eterior door, and i was trying to see if it would latch. Sure enough it did, but I forgot to put the knob on the outside of the door before I tested it now the knob and my tools are locked in and Im locked out. Any suggestions short of calling a locksmith or buying a new knob?

People with brains don't lock themselves out of buildings then ask for help on Yahoo answers.

There is a way in which to insert a screwdriver into the center of the mechanism and turn counter-clock-wise until the bolt returns to the main unit. Or, enter through an exterior window...or contact law enforcement officials for advise ... so that they do not repond to a call about someone entering a domicile that is NOT the owner.

You should be able to stick a square head type of screw driver or something in the hole where the knob would go and turn it from your side.
