What happens if a personal check or money order clears the bank but the person who sent it calls the bank and says he never wrote that check and that check was stolen? Will the bank reverse the check even after it is cleared?

The bank is responsible to return the money to the rightful owner's account. If there is no question about it being forgery, this can be very easy. If the signature was well forged, it could be more difficult. Talk to the bank manager. This happened to me. There was a rash of it in our city...many occurances in a short time. The signature on the check was not at all like mine. The teller who accepted the check without proper I.D. was held responsible.

The bank can always check his signature on the check. If there is a question then they will do that. The person who wrote the check or money order will have to retreive it themselves.

Go to your bank as soon as you can and tell them that your check was stolen. I think that it should be covered.

It depends, Citi investigates before taking any action.

I had a similar issue with Chase, they reversed the payment and closed my account. Very unfair, they treated me like a criminal. (It was a eBay\PayPal transaction)
