We do both c-sections and vaginal deliveries at our hospital for twins. Alot depends on the position of the babies, your general health (no diabetes, high blood pressure). Is this your 1st pregnancy?? Ask your doctor for an Ultrasound so that he/she can see if both babies are in vertex (head down position).
Only time will tell, 37 weeks is still early, you want the twins to "stay in the oven" a little longer and mature! Don't rush it. Take is as it comes....what will be, will be, conerning how your babies are delivered.

Hi there.
I have nothing to compare it to but I have had four Cesarean sections and I had a wonderful time. I never had any pain that I could not handle (they give you wonderful pain meds) and I got to watch my babies born. My husband was there with me, and I nursed my baby while I was still in the OR. I would rather have a line on my tummy than an episiotomy scar and all I missed was the hours of painful contractions.
I have done a great deal of research on the pros and cons of C-sections when one is expecting twins and I definitely would request a Cesarean section. The final decision will be the doctors so it does not really matter what you say anyway but I know that I would feel more comfortable with a C-section, there is just so much less that can go wrong.
Talk to your doctor and I am sure she will help you make a good decision.
BTW, please at least let your baby's have the colostrum that you will produce, it can give your babies many precious immunities that they will not receive any other way. If at all possible at least try to nurse them to some extent, even if you cannot totally breast feed both of them. Your milk contains so many things that they will never get from formula. Take turns so that they will at least get some of the benefits of breast feeding.
Good luck.
Love and blessings

Do you NEED a C-section? I personally wouldnt CHOOSE a C-Section. If your doctor thinks you need a C-section Im sure he/she will discuss it with you. Talk it over at your next appointment. Since pregnancy is 40wks your doctor will probably want you to deliver those twins as close as humanly possible to your due date.
Unless theres some indication of a problem (breech or transverse presentation or health concerns) before you go into labor your doctor may want to try to deliver the babies vaginally.
He MAY be willing to do an elective C-section, but, Id consider all your options very carefully....
Either way you have at most 5 more weeks ;)
Good Luck!!

Usually the doctor makes the call as to if he thinks you need a c-section or not. They really don't like to give one unless there is a need to. For instance if the baby is breech or if you are not dilating naturally. Keep in mind that there are things like gas that could be painful and limited movement after the procedure that follow weeks after the birth. Not to scare you just giving you the facts. Vaginal births can seem scary but when it's over it's over. recovery is alot sooner.

Ask your doctor if he thinks it's safe. My doctor did a c-section on me at 37 weeks but i only had one baby in there and the c-section happened because after trying to induce things went wrong. All i well now though. Your doctor may want to do an amnio to see if the babies are mature enough. The amnio isn't all that fun.

Hmm...If I were having twins I would have a c-section just because once the first baby is out, the second one has more room and could end up turning in a position that is not okay for a vaginal delivery. Cause I wouldnt want to have one vaginally and one by c-section, if it came down to that. But that is just me. Good luck hope everything works out.

We attended a class yesterday at a hospital filled with women expecting twins. Every single one said their doctor is recommending a csection. Most doctors can't guarantee that if the first child comes out regular that the 2nd child could come out breach so it seems that is very common. Best of luck.

first, let me say congrats that you have carried these babies to 37 wks. it seems so much any more that they come so early. bravo. if the probablility is that you will have a csection, i say go ahead and schedule it. it's better to be able to plan ahead and be ready. i know with twin there is a great chance of one baby being delivered vaginally and the other needing to be delivered via emergency csection. that could put the baby at increased risk of oxygen deprivation. so if your dr feels the need to do a csection, i'm sure it's warranted.
i've had 1 vaginal ,1 scheduled csection, and 1 emergency csection, and if i were to have another i would definitely choose the scheduled csection.

i think at the end you just want your babies and for it to be over...if you and your doc think its a good option then go for it. having a c-section does not hurt a thing but your recovery tI'me.
when my sister was pregnant with twins she tried to have them natural but after she had the first baby her second turned and she had to have a c-section in the end ....im not sure how often that happens tho
