Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection . Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience.

Honestly, to say this is or is not a reaction to the vaccine is irrelevant. It could also be something caught at school, or in the doctors office, or something she already but hadn't yet gotten bad enough to notice. Regardless, she has it and management is important. You sound like you are doing a great job already, and a few days of ibuprofen or acetaminophen are not going to be harmful (when using the correct dose for her age and weight). I will list some of what I will use with my patients to help them get some relief. Gargle and spit warm saltwater every two hours or so. This creates a hostile environment for most bugs, but it has to be done often enough to keep the infection down. Ibuprofen is best for both fever and the sore throat, check with her pediatrician to make sure you are giving the optimal dose allowed. Doubling up with acetaminophen is also fine, but really I like ibuprofen in these cases. Sore throat lozenges or sprays are fine, but regular hard candies work just as well. A package of Life-Savers, for instance, would do just as good a job. Save the throat spray for night time, so she can rest. A steam shower or to sit in a steamy bath room will help break up any thick stuff; and the best is a warm cup of chamomile tea with some honey. The honey will also help the body with the infection. Of course, if it is a bad bacteria, her pediatrician may prescribe an antibiotic. If this happens, make sure to take all of the antibiotic as prescribed. Even when feeling better, if she stopped taking the antibiotic, the infection could still come back - except then the antibiotic would likely not work and a stronger one would be needed. Before I forget, she should also be keeping up her water intake. The body needs water to fight an infection, it drives the process and helps ferry away the waste. Free water or sugar-free juices are very important here. Besides all that, she really just needs time, and perhaps a hug or two from you. Best of health. PS: Just so you know, there are no children's vaccines in the United States that contain any mercury. It was outlawed about ten years ago. Thimerisol (the preservative that has mercury) is still used in adult vaccines, but only in the multidose vials. Cheers!

Go to your family doctor or ER immediately. It could be any myriad of things. Try gargling with salt in some water or take honey in your tea. However a doctor really needs to see you to diagnose you.
