Depends on what you want to do with it. It has plenty of power, but if all you want it for is to check email and surf the net, it's overkill.
If you're looking for a machine to make music with, edit video, or touch up photos, then this is a very good machine. (Though, a little more RAM never hurt anyone! 1Gig is alot, but if you can bump it up, I would.)
Just about all of the major software producers have ported their code to run on the new Intel chips. So that's no longer an issue.

Yes it is a very nice system and you will beable to do more with it then a windows system and you can now even run windows on it too if you want there is very little that a apple can not do now

I wouldn't switch. I've got an HP pavillion a1512x-b with a 17in. display and I love it. I have no reason to complain.
