I was a theatre major in college, and we had this great project. We had to record a friend talking...telling something about their day, recounting a fight with their significant other, etc. We then transcribed it and memorized it. We had to mimic everything about them - their speach, dialect, etc. This is pretty easy to pull off with someone your close to, like a best friend or roomate. You might ask them to recount the saddest moment in their life, or their most embarrassing moment. I think you could definately pull off your assignment trying something like this.

Well write about something that you know of course, and a monologue is a conversation with just one side, something you can do is a person talking to an animal, a person talking to himself, or a person talking to another person about a subject that the second party wont have either time or anything to say for example, Guys cheats on a girl and girls find out, and at the end we find out it was with her mom or something.. I do this for a living and for me it comes naturally, but the trick is to write about what you know, don't write about a scenery of china if you never been there. One of my best monologues is about a girl talking to a cat and about how much she hates it but can't get ride of it cause is her boyfriend's who died not long ago, so at the beginning people where laughing and at the end I had them all crying. And that's what you need to do , tell a story but keep the people involve until the end comes when the real truth is discovered.

Find something that really interest you or facinates you. You could talk about some local politics, current event, or Biblical topic. I gave a speech about a different culture, I chose Japan because I have alot of experiences that I could draw from. It was informative for the listeners and it was fun for me because it wasn't hard work- I already knew most of the information. You could approach this as someone that is coming to your area from another area, or like your experiences visiting somewhere else.
